We are delighted to announce our new partnership with the aid organization Darya e.V.
Darya pursues an impressive concept: extracting drinking water from humidity in the air.
The principle is simple but ingenious:
- Special devices suck in the ambient air.
- A filter system condenses the moisture from the air – similar to a refrigerator, which forms water on its back wall.
- The water obtained in this way is filtered and mineralized in several stages.
- The end result is high-quality drinking water that can be used directly – regardless of contaminated wells or river sources.
- The focus is on the villages of Nderema and Kachamba near Mua (Malawi), where around 4,000 people live.
- Everyday life there is characterized by a severe water shortage:
- The existing well is polluted, is not enough for everyone, and often dries up.
- In addition, river water is used – the quality of which has never been tested.
- The consequences are serious: Cholera, schistosomiasis, and diarrheal diseases are among the most common causes of illness and death, especially among children.
Our common goal: to finance the first water generator for Malawi in order to provide the local population with permanent access to clean drinking water.
We will travel to Mua with the Darya team in October 2025. At the same time, another Interplast surgical mission will take place at Mua Mission Hospital – a strong sign of how medical and infrastructural aid complement each other in a meaningful way.
We are convinced that clean water is life. And together, we can make a decisive difference here.
Anyone who would like to get involved or find out more is welcome to contact us or support Darya’s work directly.
